Leadership

I spent the past few years of my academic career entering numerous leadership positions in civil society, law, and government. These positions strengthened my organizational skills, my ability to connect with others, and my capacity to affect change.

Carlisle Sunrise

Political mobilization is critical to addressing the climate crisis. As a Dickinson student, I co-founded and led Carlisle Sunrise to strengthen the political support for climate justice policies, including the ones that I supported during my time working for the municipal and county governments in Carlisle. Carlisle Sunrise had dozens of members, both from Dickinson and our surrounding community. We organized rallies, met with local officials, and hosted teach-ins.

In the Carlisle community, we served as a voice for climate justice.

Carlisle Sunrise has sought to influence local politics by aiding voter registration drives and endorsing candidates who share our values on social media. On September 20th, 2021, I helped lead a rally calling on local leaders to prioritize climate action and social justice in their planning. This rally was also in support of the Civilian Climate Corps, a key demand by the Sunrise Movement. I wrote an article in Dickinson's Sustainability Newsletter about the rally, and it is accessible below.

On the Dickinson Campus, Carlisle Sunrise has multiple objectives.

We organized to advocate issues that exist at the intersection of environmental responsibility and social justice. Our two biggest campaigns on campus were for the Dickinson administration to divest from fossil fuels and to raise the wages of its dining service and custodial employees.

Carlisle Sunrise also promotes education about how environmental irresponsibility disproportionately affects disadvantaged groups. In the picture above, a fellow activist and I challenged Dickinson students to write about how social justice and sustainability are intertwined. Those who participated were awarded a slice of pizza.

Dickinson College Student Senate (2019-2020)

Dickinson College's student senate oversees most operations on campus, and serves as a body for student discourse. I was elected class senator, and I served on the club budgeting committee. I developed skills on compromising with those who I disagreed with, and learning how to operate and manipulate budgets.

Dickinson College Moot Court (2019)

I was the co-founder and president of Dickinson College's first moot court team. We competed against schools from across the US. While I remain uncertain as to whether I will pursue an education in law, moot court strengthened my research skills, my critical thinking skills, and my debating and advocacy skills.

Alpha Lambda Delta Executive Board (2019-2020)

Alpha Lambda Delta is an academic honors society. I was appointed Director of Outreach and Engagement. I maintained multiple social media accounts to connect with members and alumni, and I built connections with organizations on and off campus to provide networking and service opportunities for members.
